London: keeping the parents happy

The last thing Nick and I wanted when we went overseas was to spend the whole time in lines and crowds, doing the touristy things.

But when in London, I guess you can't not see where Queen Lizzie lives!!

So we dedicated a morning to jumping on and off the tour buses to see it all in a short amount of time. We paid 25 pounds each for our bus ticket went up to the open top level of the double decker bus, plugged in our headphones ready to be taught the history of this amazing city. I may have got a bit too into the commentary, and within 30 seconds had let go of our ticket which went sailing through the air onto the road below.

"Not possible," the bus driver bluntly told us as we asked if our tickets could be reprinted. So there we were on a Jump On-Off Bus with no way to actually get off and get back on again!

The next stop was London Tower and Tower Bridge. We begrudgingly decided we couldn't just stay on the bus and drive passed these famous sites. So we succumbed to the fact that we would just have to purchase another ticket.

After that we headed back onto the bus with our fresh new tickets, ready to explore the rest of the city. The next stop was Big Ben and Westminster Abbey and after consulting a map we realised that really every site that we wanted to see was in walking distance from this stop.

Pretty gutted that we had just spent 100 pounds to go 2 stops on a bus for all of 10 minutes, we decided to suck it up, figuring that one day it would be a funny story, one day.

Big Ben:

Houses of Parliament:

Westminster Abbey:

Buckingham Palace: not a bad abode!

So there you have it, we saw what you 'have to see'. Now back to the important stuff, what's for dinner?
